Cuba!!

Ryan and I left the kids at home and ditched the neverending winter for a trip to Cuba!  We loved it - everything was amazing! (Even the food! ...well most of it anyways.)

This was our resort:

Right on the beach, beautiful views.
There were a few very tame cats that hung around, getting love and snacks.
Lizards that were zipping around everywhere.
One of the entertainment staff. "Picture tiiiiime!!  WHOOSH!"
Dressed up for supper.  At all restaurants, women dressed up and men had to wear pants and shoes (no sandals!).

In the lobby drinking the best coffee ever.
HAHAHA!  Definitely remembered to put this out!

Games by the pool.
Nice.  ;)

Clouds coming in!
A groundskeeper brought me a coconut that he had opened up.
Resting up before the all night flight home.

We went into Varadero a couple of times to wander around and pick up some souvenirs.
Street market

The House of Rum

Beatles Restaurant!  It is amazing how prevalent the Beatles are there.  Even the string quartet at one of the restaurants played Beatles covers.

Coco Cabs - sketchy 3 wheelers that you could hire like a cab.

We did take one of the "old timers" into Varadero once.  There were so many old cars being used as cabs!

The other time we went in, we took the double decker bus - 5 pesos to ride all day.
In Varadero trying to look like I'm in the jungle.  Nailed it!  ;D
La Gruta del Vino - BEST food we had there!!  It's a tiny little restaurant in a cave.
That is a giant lobster tail covering half my plate. Soooo good.

We also went golfing one afternoon.  It was a beautiful course and we had a great time.

Refreshments

Almost hit the ball into the ocean!

Golfing in flip flops - winning strategy.

18th hole

We also took a bus tour to the Bay of Pigs and saw a lot of other interesting things along the way.

A boarding school - all the older kids go to these.
A sugarcane plantation named "Australia".
A flowering Royal Palm - the bees love these.
Termite nest!!
Mangroves and lilies.
Crocodile Farm
Stuffed crocodile that you could purchase for 40 pesos.  Pretty sure Canadian Customs wouldn't allow  it!

Yep - they're real!

The rest of the time we spent on the beach!  The first day we were there it was actually very cold and windy, but the ocean was amazing.  Huge waves coming in.

It warmed up quickly though!
Varadero beach.
Snorkelling at the Bay of Pigs...

These guys would follow you around everywhere.

There were loads of pelicans around, fishing for minnows.

These guys threw nets into the water and dumped the minnows they caught in them onto the beach for the pelicans.

Smoking Cuban cigars on the beach...
...it had to happen.  :)
The water was amazing!

Like I said, we loved it, and would definitely go back... tomorrow.  Stupid winter!  Guess I'll just keep looking at these photos over and over.  :D

Graye Lost his First Tooth!

Graye had the loosest tooth ever and it would NOT fall out!  I tried giving him foods that would help it along, but no luck.  Finally, I just grabbed a Kleenex and popped it out before he really knew what was happening.  After a moment of shock, he was so excited he could barely contain himself.
